Coat cleaning
Pet owners know the situation: the dog rolls around in a dirty puddle with relish and the cat comes home from its nightly foray with a completely filthy coat. Although cats in particular, but also dogs, are very clean animals that devote hours and hours to grooming, sometimes this is not enough. This may be because the dirt is too stubborn, because the animals smell unpleasant or because the pet owners prefer to do it themselves for reasons of hygiene. This simply gives a better feeling, especially as puss and poof often share the couch or even the bed with their masters and mistresses. However, conventional cleaning products developed for humans are not necessarily the right choice for our pets. For example, our shampoo is not suitable for cleaning the fur of dogs and cats. Even the shower gel that we like to use for ourselves is rather unsuitable for animals. However, we at Elbpfoten can formulate high-quality and effective coat cleaning products for dog and cat owners.
Coat cleaning: The right product for every application
The causes and severity of soiling in dog and cat fur can vary greatly. This is why there is no “one” coat cleaning product that is suitable for all animals and all requirements. The pet owner’s equipment should therefore include several products for coat cleaning if possible. The most important products are presented below.
Antiallergic shampoo for cleaning fur
Environmental allergens don’t just make life difficult for us humans. Dogs in particular often suffer from atopic dermatitis (colloquially known as eczema). As the animals often struggle with severe itching, the problem does not go unnoticed by the owners. The dogs then scratch themselves constantly, sometimes nibbling and biting at the itchy areas or rubbing themselves on the floor or wall. Paws, face and stomach are usually particularly affected. However, if the allergens are washed off regularly, the symptoms usually subside quickly. Conventional coat cleaning products are not suitable, however. Instead, dog owners should use anti-allergic coat shampoo. It is particularly mild and a blessing for irritated skin. The surfactants are sulphate-free and particularly well tolerated. The anti-allergenic coat shampoo is applied using a foam pump. Only one hand is needed: Dog owners know how practical and helpful this method of application is. There is no need to lather the coat, which some animals find unpleasant. Thanks to the very low concentration of surfactants used, the coat can also be cleaned more frequently. The dog’s skin does not dry out as the shampoo contains moisturising ingredients. Naturally, the pH value is between 6.0 and 8.5 and is therefore optimised for the dog’s skin.
Micellar shampoo for deep cleansing
We already mentioned it at the beginning: sometimes our pets are real little “dirt finches”. But it doesn’t matter, because after a thorough coat cleaning, your pet will be looking its best again. A deep-cleansing shampoo is just what they need. It contains surfactants in micellar form, i.e. the cleansing effect is significantly greater than with conventional surfactants. Incidentally, deep cleansing of this kind is also essential in the case of infestation with giardia or other parasites!
Cleansing oils: Gentle coat cleansing even for sensitive skin
Cleansing oils are widely used and very popular in cosmetics. However, with a formulation tailored to the animal, they are also ideal for dogs and cats. Especially if the coat is particularly dirty or the animals have very sensitive skin. This is because dogs and cats often react sensitively to aggressive coat cleaning products. Mild cleansing oils are therefore a gentle yet effective alternative in many cases. If you want to do something extra good for your pet’s skin after cleansing, you can supplement the cleansing oils with oils containing the valuable, essential omega-3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). A good example of this is algae oil. Algae naturally have a unique photosynthesis and a very high omega-3 content. Science has long known that these fatty acids have a positive effect on the entire metabolism and in particular on the skin and coat of animals.
